The World's Best Beaches to Visit on a Cruise

Some versions can be tougher than others, but in general, three-piece setups are superior. New three-piece cranks use sealed bearings and a separate part for either crank and the spindle. They are lighter and stronger than one-piece options, which can be easy to bend. For a three-piece crank, only the bent arm need be replaced.Aim for three-piece cranks. Other models, especially geared specimens, come with rim brakes front and back.

Cove Beach, CocoCay

Governor's Beach on the island of Grand Turk (part of the Turks and Caicos) can be crowded at times -- particularly on days when cruise ships are visiting the island. It offers a fine curve of white sand and clear turquoise water. It's also super close to Grand Turk Cruise Center, where cruise ships arrive when visiting the island, making it an easy outing for cruisers. Just a few miles from the cruise port at Lahaina on the island of Maui (and a bit farther away from the cruise port of Kahului) is one of Hawaii's most famous beaches, Ka'anapali. It's easy to swim and snorkel from this long, walkable and lifeguard-protected beach, which offers views of Lanai and Molokai. You can rent snorkel gear as well as surfboards and wakeboards at nearby shops, and also arrange for a shaded cabana.

They require less maintenance as they have fewer moving parts, but they only go about as fast as you can pedal. Be careful of hills, though, as that one speed also means you’ll have to pedal harder to climb. You will have plenty of options, with numerous restaurants showing off the city’s renowned culinary scene. Particular highlights are the many soul food and Southern cuisine restaurants in the historic downtown area.

Governor's Beach, Grand Turk Island

All the beaches on my list are public and completely free to visit. To be fair, some of the world's most spectacular beaches -- Balos Beach in Crete, for instance -- aren't easily reachable from the places where cruise ships dock. But cruise ships can take you to a surprising number of the world's most famous and alluring stretches of sand. Of the three strands that border MoBay's "Hip Strip," which is Gloucester Avenue, it's Doctor's Cave that gets our vote for being most family-friendly.

If not, a straight cruiser fork is usually situated to place it at a similar distance and angle from the head tube. This results in a lot of rake and loads of what is known as ‘trail’. Basically, your steering is slow and casual, just how you want it. A relaxed head tube angle of around 69° to 70° results in relaxed steering. It also contributes to less weight being placed over the front wheel, which is only a problem if you’re attempting a lot of climbs.

Take your Margaritaville cruise experience to the next level. Margaritaville at Sea will take you from relaxation to revelry with your choice of stops anywhere in between. Delectable food, St. Somewhere Spa & Salon, live music and shows–from sunrise to sunset and every moment in between, there’s always something exciting happening. You could also rent a private cabana at The Hideout, part of Hideaway Beach.

Although there isn’t much to see within the immediate vicinity of the port, there are plenty of sightseeing opportunities and amenities within the city of Charleston itself. With a short taxi ride into the city or roughly a 20-minute walk, you can enjoy a full day of fun and exploration. Following the failure to renew Carnival Cruise Line’s deal with the South Carolina Ports Authority, cruise ships will no longer be allowed to start journeys from the city.

The relative rigidity of hi-ten steel is offset by wide, low-pressure tires and sprung saddles. How did these big, slow, flashy vehicles evolve to become the United States’ most iconic bike? The beach cruiser’s past can be traced back to the cruisers of the 1920s, 30s and 40s. We can already see the genre’s distinctively wide, swept-back handlebars and humped top-tube in the 1924 Mead Ranger.

This public beach is 2 miles long and open to all for free, and the sand is impossibly soft and silky. It's also rarely crowded (access for the public is right near the entrance to the InterContinental Le Moana Bora Bora). You'll find the water crystal clear and shallow out to the coral reef offshore. You'll need to take a 30-minute ferry to reach Manly Beach from the spot where cruise ships dock in Sydney, Australia. Lined with beachside cafes, restaurants and bars, Manly is one of the Sydney area's iconic beach getaways. It's best known as surfing hot spot (it's home to the Australian Open of Surfing every February) and is backed by a tree-lined promenade.

If you prefer a spot out of the direct sun, there are trees at the back of the beach that provide some shade. Jitneys are independently-owned buses that charge just $1.50 each way to any stop along one of several routes. Passengers can hail a passing jitney even if it’s not at a bus stop.

Drum brakes use an internal hub, like coaster brakes, but are cable-actuated in the same way rim and disc brakes are. Drum brakes work by using a conventional brake lever and cable linked to a cam that presses brake shoes outward against the inside of a cylindrical drum, creating friction. Traditionally, beach cruisers use just one rear coaster brake.

There are two public access points you could take to reach the sand. One is by taking Casino Drive and entering the beach next to Riu Palace. When you choose to apply (and are approved) for a new credit card through our site, we may receive compensation from our partners, and this may impact how or where these products appear. Please view our advertising policy and product review methodology for more information. Beach facilities include snorkel gear rentals, beach chair rentals, a snack bar and grill, restrooms, showers, public telephones and lifeguards.

Hail a jitney (or take a 30-minute taxi ride) for a scenic drive on West Bay Street to Love Beach, then look for the Nirvana sign on the right on top of a large arched gate. Their property is the primary access point to Love Beach for non-residents. Love Beach is one of Nassau’s less-crowded beaches, and it’s a great place to snorkel right from the beach without having to book a snorkeling shore excursion. The scenic route would be to take the small ferry ($4 per person each way) across and walk to the beach. As you exit the cruise terminal, just look for the sign pointing you to the ticket booth. Activities available on Cabbage Beach include parasailing, banana boat rides, jetskiing, and snorkeling.

A classic cruiser with classic lines, the Rover 9 has a light 6061 aluminum frame and steel fork, hydraulic disc brakes, and a 1x9-speed drivetrain controlled by a Microshift trigger shifter. Moderately grippy, 45mm-wide Kenda Koast tires (with coffee-colored sidewalls) on 27.5-inch alloy rims roll fast and eat potholes in your path. The open, alloy pedals aren’t the most barefoot-friendly compared to rubber-coated pedals, but that’s an easy and inexpensive swap.

For the extra money, you get a bike that is better sealed against the elements, more durable and easier to upgrade. This may be a ‘beach bike’, but you never know when an unexpected saltwater puddle or onshore rainstorm is coming to harsh your sunny buzz. These are popular, traditional and stylish options for cargo. Crates and boxes can be mounted on a front rack, while smaller baskets can be attached to the handlebars. Good quality options are hard to find on off-the-shelf cruisers. A more stable option uses this same central spring in combination with a ‘double-sprung’ fork, attached by pivots to either side of a ‘second fork’.
